When you walk through Newlands, you can feel the history. You are not just in another neighborhood. You are experiencing a part of Reno from its original beginnings.
You start to wonder about the stories behind these homes. Who lived here? What did life look like inside these walls 100 years ago?
As you walk the streets, it is easy to imagine what they looked like in the early 1900s. The cars were different. The pace of life was different. Even today, when I hear the train whistle coming into town, I can’t help but think that the residents back then heard that same sound.
There is something about that connection to the past that makes this neighborhood feel different.
One of the things I love about Newlands is how connected it still feels.
Residents can walk into Midtown for restaurants, coffee, and shopping, just like people did years ago. That lifestyle has not changed, and it is a big part of what makes this area so special.
Newlands Park sits up on the bluff and offers some of the most beautiful views in Reno. It is one of those places where you can slow down, take it all in, and really appreciate where you are.
There is a strong sense of pride in this neighborhood.
People take care of their homes. The yards are maintained, the streets are beautiful, and you can tell that homeowners truly value where they live.
A lot of the homes have been preserved, and some are even on the historical register. That history is not lost here. It is protected and appreciated.
You also see craftsmanship in these homes that is hard to find today. The details, the materials, and the uniqueness all stand out.
One of the things that makes Newlands so unique is the variety of architectural styles throughout the neighborhood.
You will see homes ranging from French Renaissance Revival and Colonial Revival to Craftsman bungalows, Mediterranean Revival, Tudor Revival, Georgian Revival, and even Italian Renaissance influences. There are also Minimal Traditional and Mission Revival homes mixed in.
Each home feels different. They were not built all at once, and they were not designed to look the same.
That is part of the appeal. Buyers who are drawn to Newlands appreciate that they are not buying a cookie-cutter home. They are buying something with character, history, and design that you just do not see in newer communities.
These are not cookie-cutter homes.
Each one has its own personality, its own story, and its own layout. That uniqueness is something buyers either fall in love with or quickly realize is not for them.
Many of these homes also sit on larger parcels, which is something buyers really appreciate. You get space, mature landscaping, and a setting that feels established.
People are drawn to Newlands for a few key reasons.
They want:
Character and history
A walkable lifestyle
Unique homes
Larger lots
A strong sense of community
Access to good schools
This is not a neighborhood for everyone, and that is exactly why the people who choose it tend to really love it.
Living in Newlands Historic District is about more than just the home. It is about the feeling you get when you are there.
It is the history, the craftsmanship, the trees, the walkability, and the sense that you are part of something that has been here for generations.
That is not something you can recreate in a newer neighborhood. It is something you experience.
